Dyophparag began when cabinetmaker Lea Vanhoutte and art historian Marc Peeters shared a damp cellar near the Begijnhof filled with orphaned chairs and orphaned frames. They sold almost nothing at first; they measured stairwells instead.

Clients asked for help placing one inherited armoire without wrecking a seventeenth-century floorboard. That single-piece problem became the studio’s method: integrate, do not fill.

Today the workshop sits above the street at Steenstraat 38. Three people handle sourcing, surface care, and placement drawings. We work mostly inside the ring of Bruges — Sint-Anna, Kristus-Koning, and the tight plots toward the Coupure.

Commissions stay small on purpose. A house may need six objects and one textile plan, not a catalogue drop. We still refuse pieces that cannot turn the stair or clear a beamed soffit.

We are building a quiet network of Flemish upholsterers and gilders who will travel to Brugge rather than force objects onto long van routes. Documentation of provenance will stay client-owned, stored only as long as a project needs.
